Where You'll Practice
Our instructors take Kanata students through a variety of local roads to build well-rounded skills. Expect to practise on Terry Fox Drive, March Road, the Kanata Centrum parking areas, Hazeldean Road, and the Highway 417 on/off ramps near Eagleson. Residential practice happens in Bridlewood, Morgan's Grant, and Beaverbrook — streets with school zones, four-way stops, and cul-de-sacs that test your low-speed manoeuvres.
Your Road Test
Most Kanata students take their G2 or G road test at the Walkley Road DriveTest Centre in Ottawa's south end, approximately a 25-minute drive from Kanata. Your Golden Key instructor will pick you up from home, give you a full hour of practice near the test centre, and let you use our vehicle for the exam. Some students also test at the Kanata-area temporary centres when available — we'll help you prepare for whichever location you're booked at.
Local Driving Challenges
Kanata presents several unique driving challenges that our instructors specifically prepare students for. The Highway 417 interchange at Eagleson Road is one of the busiest in the west end, requiring confident merging skills. Terry Fox Drive features multiple roundabouts that many new drivers find intimidating. School zones around Kanata's many elementary schools require careful speed management, and the busy parking lots at Kanata Centrum and Tanger Outlets provide excellent practice for real-world parking situations.
